We have been made aware that fake Facebook accounts impersonating Australian Mutual Bank have recently appeared online.
We have received reports from members who may have received friend requests from accounts using our name and logo, or have been contacted via direct message with some being invited to join a WhatsApp group supposedly run by Australian Mutual Bank.
Please note that these messages and profiles are not genuine and are not affiliated with Australian Mutual Bank in any way.
We have reported the fake accounts to Facebook for removal; however, while we wait for them to act, other impersonation attempts may appear.
We want to reassure our members that our official Facebook page and systems remain secure.
This activity is an impersonation scam, where fraudsters create look-alike accounts to mislead users into providing personal or financial information.
Australian Mutual Bank will never:
- Send friend requests,
- Contact you through WhatsApp or private Facebook messages, or
- Ask you to share personal or banking details via social media.

How to stay safe online
Scammers often use social media impersonation to build trust and gather information. Here are some ways to protect yourself:
- Be cautious of friend requests from accounts claiming to represent a business or financial institution.
- Check account details carefully as fake pages often have slight spelling errors, no page history, or limited activity.
- Do not click on suspicious links or join unofficial social media or messaging groups.
- Report fake accounts directly through Facebook’s ‘Report’ feature.
- Never share personal, banking, or login details through social media.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your social accounts for added security.
- Keep your apps and devices up to date with the latest security updates.
